دیکھ تو آن کے چہرہ میرا
اِک نظر بھی تری کیا کرتی ہے
زندگی بھر کی یہ تاخیر اپنی
رنج ملنے کا سِوا کرتی ہے
شام پڑتے ہی کِسی شخص کی یاد
کوچۂ دِل میں صدا کرتی ہے
مسلہ جب بھی چراغوں کا اُٹھا
فیصلہ صرف ہوا کرتی ہے
مجھ سے بھی اُس کا ہے ویسا ہی سلوک
حال جو تیرا انا کرتی ہے
دُکھ ہوا کرتا ہے کچھ اور بیاں
بات کچھ اور ہوا کرتی ہے

शब की तन्हाई में अब तो अक्सर
गुफ़्तगू तुझ से हुआ करती है
दिल को उस राह पे चलना ही नहीं
जो मुझे तुझ से जुदा करती है
ज़िन्दगी मेरी थी लेकिन अब तो
तेरे कहने में रहा करती है
उस ने देखा ही नहीं वार्ना ये आंख
दिल का अहवाल कहा करती है
मसहफ़-ए दिल पे अजब रंगों में
एक तस्वीर बना करती है
बे-नियाज़-ए कफ़-ए दरया अंगुश्त
रेत पर नाम लिखा करती है
देख तो आन के चेहरा मेरा
एक नज़र भी तेरी क्या करती है
ज़िन्दगी भर की ये ताख़ीर अपनी
रंज मिलने का शिव करती है
शाम पड़ते ही किसी शख़्स की याद
कूचा-ए जां में सदा करती है
मस’अला जब भी चिराग़ों का उठा
फ़ैसला सिर्फ़ हवा करती है
मुझ से भी उस का है वैसा ही सुलूक

The breeze does me a great favour, it brings your fragrance to me. Gently kissing flowers, the morning breeze works a miracle. (It is generally considered that flowers bloom when the morning breeze blows over buds).

abr barse to inaayat3 us ki

‘band-e qaba kholna’ – ‘untying the ties of the robe’ is a very sensuous expression. Thus, the breeze unties the robe of flowers (makes them bloom) and releases/frees up fragrance. The bough of the tree can only pray/beg. It is benevolence of the cloud if it rains. The ‘shaaKh’ is the poet/lover and ‘abr’ could be a reference to either the beloved or god. parveen shakir often refers to the beloved as a cloud.

It remains to be seen what colour/style the coming spring grants to my heart. My life (in anticipation) is lighting up the torch of leaf of henna. The flame of the torch is red – thus this could be she is primming herself up with henna in anticipation of the season of love, this spring.

This is probably about ‘breaking up’. The question is – will the lamp (of love) remain lit. Only the breeze can decide that. The breeze could be the beloved or other/societal conditions. Both the lover and beloved are victims of their respective egos. I too have an ego and it treats me the same way that your ego treats you. This could be the poet/lover asking the beloved to recognize her needs to nurture her ego, her needs of self-fulfillment and achievement.
