दयार-ए इश्क़ में अपना मक़ाम पैदा कर

नया ज़माना नया सुबह ओ शाम पैदा कर

ख़ुदा अगर दिल-ए फ़ित्रत-शनास दे तुझ को

सुकूट-ए लाला ओ गुल से कलाम पैदा कर

उठा ना शीशा-गरान-ए फ़रँग के एह्साँ

सिफ़ाल-ए हिन्द से मीना ओ जाम पैदा कर

मैँ शाख़-ए ताक हूँ मेरी गज़ल है मेरा समर

मेरे समर से मै-ए लाला फ़ाम पैदा कर

मेरा तरीक़ अमीरी नहिँ फ़क़ीरी है

ख़ुदी ना बेच, ग़रीबी में नाम पैदा कर

Until about 1905-1908 iqbal was a progressive, nationalist and a staunchly secular politician, poet, philosopher. His son javed was born in 1911. In 1931 at the Round Table Conference, iqbal received a letter from his son. He wrote this in response. iqbal was addressing all youth in the name of his son. Also, it is noteworthy that he is still talking about “sifaal-e hind”, the clay of hindustan. pakistan is not on the horizon yet.

Khuda agar dil-e fitrat-shanaas1 de tujh ko
sukoot2-e laala o gul se kalaam3 paida kar  
1.knowing/understanding nature (divine purpose) 2.tranquility, silence 3.conversation, words
If god has granted you the ability to understand nature/divine purpose, then converse with the silence of the tulip and the rose. Get them to talk and reveal the secrets of nature to you.

sifaal3-e hind se meena4 o jaam5 paida kar

Do not be beholden to the artisans/glass blowers of the West. Make your own flask and cup out of the clay of hind. Seek your sustenance in the offerings of your homeland.

mere samar se mai3-e laala-faam4 paida kar   
1.grape 2.fruit 3.wine 4.body of the tulip i.e. red
I am like the bough of grapes and the fruit of the bough is my verse/Ghazal. From my fruit make red wine i.e. the elixir of life.

Khudi3 na bech, Ghareebi4 meN naam paida kar
1.way, method 2.poverty, abstaining from material pleasures, spirituality 3.self respect 4.poverty, adversity
My way of life is to stay away from material comforts and seek spirituality. Do not compromise your self-respect. Seek a name for yourself by accepting adversity.
