کام آتا ہے ۔ حسن چشتی
حوصلہ کام نہ کچھ شوق ہی کام آتا ہے
ایک ایسا بھی محبّت میں مقام آتا ہے
دیدہ و دل کے لئے سخت مقام آتا ہے
جب لبِ بام کوئی ماہِ تمام آتا ہے
نیّتِ توبہ وہیں ٹوٹ کے رہ جاتی ہے
جب سرِ شام گھٹاوں کا پیام آتا ہے
جانے کیوں جانبِ منزل نہیں اُٹھتے ہیں قدم
شاید اے دل کوئی دشوار مقام آتا ہے
پھر کوئی آبلہ پا گرمِ سفر ہے شاید
دشت کے نام بہاروں کا پیام آتا ہے
منزلیں ہیں کہ گزرتی ہی چلی جاتی ہیں
دیکھنا یہ ہے کہاں اِذنِ قیام آتا ہے
خود ہی کھُل جاتا ہے میخانے کا دروازہ حسنؔ
جب نگاہوں کو نگاہوں کا پیام آتا ہے
ہائے وہ منظرِ پُر درد کہ جس وقت حسنؔ
اُن کی نمناک نگاہوں کا پیام آتا ہے

हौसला काम न कुछ शौक़ ही काम आता है
एक ऐसा भी मोहब्बत में मक़ाम आता है
दीदा ओ दिल के लिए सख़्त मक़ाम आता है
जब लब-बाम कोई माह-ए तमाम आता है
निय्यत-ए तौबा वहीँ टूट के रह जाती है
जब सर-ए शाम घटाओं का पयाम आता है
जाने क्यूं जानिब-ए मंज़िल नहीं उठते हैं क़दम
शायद अए दिल कोई दुश्वार मक़ाम आता है
फिर कोई आबला पा गर्म-ए सफ़र है शायद
दश्त के नाम बहारों का पयाम आता है
मंज़िलें हैं के गुज़रती ही चली जाती हैं
देखना ये है कहाँ इज़्न-ए क़याम आता है
ख़ुद ही खुल जाता है मैख़ाने का दरवाज़ा हसन
जब निगाहौं को निगाहौं का पयाम आता है
हाय वो मंज़र-इ पुर-दर्द के जिस वक़्त हसन
उन की नमनाक निगाहौं का पयाम आता है

Normally the poet/lover is hopeful/expectant that the beloved will show some favour. But even in love, a stage comes when all determination, all passion is of no use.

deeda-o-dil (eye and heart) because the heart is the seat of love and the eye sheds tears when in pain. But the poet/lover is supposed to hide his love (from the world) and not shed tears, lest anyone find out and her name is maligned. It becomes very difficult for him to do this when the beloved, beautiful like the full moon, shows up at her balcony and he is hanging around her street.

The poet/lover has sworn off wine, he is repentant but when of an early evening pleasant clouds gather, the ambience is so conducive to wine drinking and celebration and that his intention of penitence is soon broken.

shaayed3 aye dil koi dushvaar4 maqaam5 aata hai1.towards the goal 2.steps 3.perhaps 4.difficult 5.stage
The poet/lover on his way to his goal (the beloved’s street for a rendezvous, perhaps) has an uneasy feeling and his feet are dragging. Perhaps there is a difficult stage ahead (perhaps he is fearful that she is annoyed or the rival is already there).

dasht5 ke naam bahaarauN ka payaam aata hai1.sore feet 2.enthusiastically getting ready 3.journey, wandering 4.perhaps 5.wilderness
The poet/lover wanders through the wilderness in search of his beloved like majnuN. He is thus described as ‘aabla-paa’, of sore feet. He is again getting ready to start his journey of wandering. Spring has sent a message to the wilderness to get ready for him.

The poet/lover is on a long journey and landmarks are rapidly passing by. He wonders, on this fast journey, when he will get permission to stop and rest.

jab nigaahauN2 ko nigaahauN ka payaam3 aata hai1.tavern 2.eyes 3.message
Eyes meet and messages are exchanged. This is a moment of joy and celebration, as if the doors of the tavern have opened up all by themselves.

This time, when the eyes meet, the poet/lover sees her moist eyes and it is a message of pain sorrow. Oh! what a sad scene it is, O hasan, when I see her tearful eyes.
