kis takalluf-saeed shahidi

viTThal rao singing

kis takalluf – saeed shahidi

1.refinement, finesse 2.arrangement 3.consoling
The poet/lover is waiting for her, knowing that she will not keep her promise. But he has made all arrangements to receive her. What finesse and what arrangements have I made, I am consoling my heart (that she will surely come) all evening.

1.wine 2.spills over 3.wine drinkers 4.administration, system, government
This could well be a statement about injustice of the order/system. There is plenty of wine, so much that it spills over, but the wine drinkers don’t get any and they go thirsty. We are still happy/satisfied with this system.

jab bhi leta hai koii naam tera
sar jhukaate haiN ehteraam1 se hum
1.respect, veneration
This could well be addressed to god (or the beloved). Whenever anyone mentions your name, I bow down in reverence.

mil gaii jab nigaah saaqi se
ho gaye be-nayaaz1 jaam2 se hum
1.unconcerned, not caring 2.cup/goblet (of wine)
The eyes of the beloved are intoxicating … all the poet/lover has to do is look into her eyes. Now that he has and is getting his fill of intoxication, he is no longer concerned about the goblet of wine.

bijliaaN gir rahi haiN gulshan1 par
luT2 rahe haiN kis ehtemaam3 se hum
1.garden 2.robbed, losing everything 3.arrangement
In urdu poetic tradition lightning strikes the garden and burns up the poet/lover’s nest/home. He loses everything. He is at some distance looking at the display of lightning strikes, like a fine fireworks display and is amused/pleased at the elaborate arrangement for his destruction.

1.transgression 2.pardon 3.satisfied 4.revenge
The beloved always breaks promises/ignores/insults the poet/lover. He is prepared to forgive all her transgressions and is satisfied with this kind of revenge.

de nahiN sakte aap saath jahaaN
ab guzarte1 haiN us maqaam2 se hum
1.pass through 2.place
The poet/lover is passing through a very difficult place/phase … perhaps one where he is neglected/ignored. The beloved cannot possibly go through such a condition.

1.benevolent, kind 2.deprived 3.greetings, recognition
Until recently, she was kind to me but today I am deprived even of basic greetings.
