سو ہم بھی تنگ کیے جاتے ہیں حصار اپنا

سبھی چراغ کمر بستہ ہیں ہوا کے خلاف

بچاری لے کے کہاں جائے انتشار اپنا

किये जाओ इन्तेज़ार अपना – ग़ालिब अयाज़

हुआ करेगा हर एक लफ़्ज़ मुश्क-बार अपना

अभी सुकूं से किये जाओ इन्तेज़ार अपना

उठा लिया है हलफ़ गरचे जां-निसारी का

मुझे संभाल, के होता हूं बार-बार अपना

उदास आंख को है इन्तेज़ार-ए फ़स्ल-ए मुराद

कभी तो मौसम-ए जां होगा साज़-गार अपना

तुम्हारे दर से उठाए गए मलाल नहीं

वहां तो छोढ के आए हैं हम ग़ुबार अपना

बहुत बलन्द हुई जाती है अना की फ़सील

सो हम भी तंग किये जाते हैं हिसार अपना

सभी चराग़ कमर-बस्ता हैं हवा के ख़िलाफ़

बिचारी लेके कहां जाए इन्तेशार अपना

The poet’s name is Ghalib and his taKhallus is ayaaz. I did figure out that he had a day job listed as an S.E.O. I have no idea what it is. This Ghazal with the same radeef and qaafiya as Ghalib’s ‘mizshgaan-e aahu pusht-Khaar apna’ is linked to Ghalib naqsh-e qadam.

I think the poet is writing about how with time his verse will mature and every word will give out the fragrance of musk. He says to himself – be patient, waiting for yourselves to become mature in literary capabilities.

Even though I have taken a firm resolve to sacrifice my life (for the beloved) I stumble again and again and become conscious/mindful of the self forgetting my resolve to sacrifice the self. He is then asking someone to hold him steady and support him. Who is he asking – the beloved or his guardian angel. He leaves it to us to figure out.

kabhi to mosam-e jaaN hoga saazgaar5 apna   
1.sorrowful 2.waiting 3.season 4.desire 5.favourable
I wait sorrowfully for the season/time when my desire will be fulfilled. Sometime (I hope) the season of life will become favourable for me. What is the desire that he is waiting for fulfillment. He does not spell it out, but the underlying feeling is that he is waiting for union with the beloved.

tumhaare dar1 se uThaaye gaye malaal2 nahiN
vahaaN to chhoR ke aaye haiN ham Ghubaar3 apna   
1.door 2.sorrow 3.dust, but idiomatically it also means anger, ill-feeling
The lover spends his time at the door of the beloved. But he has been made to leave. Even as he went, he left behind all his anger and ill-feeling in the street of the beloved. So he has not sorrow about being treated thus, does not carry grudges.

Whose ego is it around which the boundary wall is becoming higher? I assume, the beloved. She is being self-centred and shutting him out. The second misra appears to be his reaction to this – therefore, I too, am going to reduce the extent of something … what? Probably, of his willingness to tolerate the whims and fancies of the beloved. He appears willing to walk away.

bichaari le ke kahaaN jaaye inteshaar4 apna  
1.lamp, candle 2.girding up the loin, determined, resolved 3.against 4.scatter, spread
In poetic convention the wind blows and puts out the candle. Here it seems that all candles have resolved to oppose the wind. In the second misra the poet appears to be expressing sympathy for the wind whose innate nature is to blow and scatter/spread. Where will the poor wind go now and what will she do with its nature of scattering.
