جدا ہو کر ہمارے لب سے  پیمانے پہ کیا گزری

تیری محفل میں میرا بیٹھنا بے لطف تھا لیکن
ذرا یہ بھی تو سُن لو میرے اُٹھ جانے پہ کیا گزری

نظر آتا تھا جلنا شمع کا اربابِ محفل کو
یہ پروانے سے بھی پوچھا کہ پروانے پہ کیا گزری

یہ افسانہ برہمن کی نگاہِ یاس سے سُنئے
کہ پوجا چھوڑ دی میں نے تو بُت خانے پہ کیا گزری


जो तौबा हम ने की साक़ी तो मैख़ाने पे क्या गुज़री
जुदा हो कर हमारे लब से पैमाने पे क्या गुज़री

तेरी महफ़िल में मेरा बैठना बे-लुत्फ़ था लैकिन
ज़रा ये भी तो सुन लो मेरे उठ जाने पे क्या गुज़री

नज़र आता था जलना शम’अ का अरबाब-ए महफ़िल को
ये परवाने से भी पूछा के परवाने पे क्या गुज़री

ये अफ़्साना बरहमन की निगाह-ए यास से सुनिये
के पूजा छोड़ दी मैं ने तो बुत-ख़ाने पे क्या गुज़री

I could not find a print copy of this. So, no authentication. BUT I found a print copy of an intriguingly similar Ghazal with the same radif qaafiyah posted as ‘maiKhaane pe kya guzri’. Even if this is not authentic it is pleasureable to read/hear these two Ghazals to appreciate the variations. Also compare with seemab akbarabadi, sahir ludhianavi, sikandar ali vajd and shakil badayuni.

What happened to the tavern, O saaqi, when I repented and gave up wine. What happened to the goblet when it could no longer touch my lips.

zara ye bhi to sun lo mere uTh jaane pe kya guzri

(O, beloved) I was not welcome in your party, but pray ask around what happened after I left. The implication is that the poet/lover was sorely missed after he left/was kicked out.

nazar1 aata tha jalna sham’a ka arbaab-e-mahfil2 ko
ye parvaane se bhi poochha ke parvaane pe kya guzri
