मुख़ालिफ़ एक जहाँ था जाने बेचारों पे क्या गुज़री

सहर को रुख़्सत-ए-बीमार-ए-फ़ुर्क़त देखने वालो

किसी ने ये भी देखा रात भर तारों पे क्या गुज़री

सुना है ज़िंदगी वीरानियों ने लूट ली मिल कर

न जाने ज़िंदगी के नाज़-बरदारों पे क्या गुज़री

हँसी आई तो है बे-कैफ़ सी लैकिन ख़ुदा जाने

मुझे मसरूर पा कर मेरे ग़म-ख़्वारों पे क्या गुज़री

ये ज़ाहिद हैं इन्हें क्या तजरबा एजाज़-ए-उल्फ़त का

ये तो जन्नत में भी पूछें गुनहगारों पे क्या गुज़री

This is one of a series of Ghazal with the same radeef/qaafiya, ‘kya guzri’. muKhaalif4 ek jahaaN5 tha jaane bechaarauN pe kya guzri

The poet/lover is wondering about the fate of her lovers. They (all love-struck) were all gathered in the house or street of the beloved. The whole world was opposed to them/was jealous of them, was their enemy, I wonder what happened to all those pitiable ones, how did the cruel world treat them.

kisi ne ye bhi dekha raat bhar tarauN pe kya guzri

The lover is/was stricken with the disease of separation. After a long night of this sickness, it proved fatal to him and at dawn his body was being carried out (although the she’r says “departure”, it creates a picture of funeral). But did anyone see how much the stars were weeping at his condition all night long. Thus, balancing the cruelty/opposition of the world, all stars are sympathetic to the lover.

I have heard that sorrow/calamities/desolation have conspired to loot life’s pleasures/love. I wonder how this affected the lovers who bore cruelties that the beloved visited on them.

mujhe masroor2 pa kar mere Gham-KhwaarauN3 pe kya guzri

I have a wan smile (without pleasure/happiness) on my face. But my sympathizers mistakenly think that I am happy. God knows what will happen to them now. I am not sure that I fully understand this … does the poet imply that the sympathizers will be disappointed that their sympathy is no longer needed.

The orthodox have been observing all the rituals prescribed in religion.  But they have no experience of true love … (sufiyaana love of god??).  Even in heaven they will want to know what happened to sinners (to make sure that they are properly punished – since they have no experience of love/forgiveness).  This is somewhat incongruous because “kya guzri” is usually used (and has been used in all other ash’aar) in a sympathetic sense.  But in this reading it appears to be used in a vindictive way … the orthodox are curious to know if the sinners got their due.
