تو اپنے رنگ کا خود روزگار پیدا کر

زمانہ تجھ کو سمجھ لے کہ تو ہے صاحبِ طرز

رہینِ موسمِ گل ہو کبھی نہ گلشن میں
خزاں کے رنگ میں رنگِ بہار پیدا کر

دکھا بہار چمن کی خزاں کے پردے میں

شکستِ دل سے ہو پیدا صدائے عزمِ صمیم

زمانہ تیری محبّت کا معتقد ہو جائے

They moved to dehli in the 1930s. arsh malsiaani was assistant editor of Govt of India urdu publication ‘aaj kal’ under josh malihabadi and took over as editor after josh left for pakistan. He wrote a book dedicated to Ghalib “faizaan-e Ghalib” about his influence on his many shaagird. In urdu poetic tradition KhizaaN/autumn is dry season, a period of deprivation and spring/rains are a period of plenty and of celebration. Do not be indebted to/dependent on spring in the garden (well being in the world) for your own happiness. Create the conditions of spring during drought.

In urdu poetic tradition the poet is a bird and cruel fate/bird catcher cages it. The caged bird sings/wails i.e., the poet writes painful verse. His heart is also wounded. The wounds of the heart (bleeding red) are often likened to flowers. These wounds can create an image of flowers/spring. Thus, in the background of autumn/deprivation create a picture of spring with the wounds of your heart.

Create an unadulterated cry of determination (to succeed) out of the defeat of your heart/desire. Create an intoxication (of the love of your goal/beloved/god) that is greater than the pleasure/intoxication (of wine).
