ہوش یاں سدِّ راہِ علم رہا

عقل کی ہرزہ کاریاں نہ گئیں

 

تھے جو ہمرنگِ ناز اُن کے سِتم

دل کی اُمیدواریاں نہ گئیں

 

حُسن جب تک رہا نظارہ فروش

صبر کی شرمساریاں نہ گئیں

 

طرزِ مومنؔ میں مرحبا حسرتؔ

تیری رنگیں نگاریاں نہ گئیں

ख़ूब-रूयों से यारियाँ न गईं

दिल की बे-एख़्तियारियाँ न गईं

 

अक़्ल-ए सब्र-आश्ना से कुछ न हुआ

शौक़ की बे-क़रारियाँ न गईं

 

दिन की सहरा-नवर्दियाँ न छुटीं

शब की अख़्तर-शुमारियाँ न गईं

 

होश याँ सद्द-ए राह-ए इल्म रहा

अक़्ल की हरज़ा-कारियाँ न गईं

 

थे जो हमरंग-ए नाज़ उन के सितम

दिल की उम्मीदवारियाँ न गईं
