کثافتِ زندگی کی ظلمت میں شمع حق ضو فشاں ہو کیسے
جہاں کی بجھتی ہوئی نگاہوں کو جگمگاتا ہے بامِ نانک

نہ پاک کوئی نہ کوئی ناپاک کوئی اونچا نہ کوئی نیچا
گُرُو کا یہ مے کدہ ہے اس جا ہر اِک کو ملتا ہے جامِ نانک

یہاں مٹے آ کے تفرقے سب رہی نہ آلودگی کوئی بھی
یہ حرفِ الفت، یہ طورِ عِرفاں، یہ عرشِ انساں، یہ نامِ نانک

जहाँ की बुझती हुई निगाहों को जगमगाता है बाम-ए-नानक

न पाक कोई न कोई नापाक कोई ऊँचा न कोई नीचा
गुरु का ये मय-कदा है इस जा हर इक को मिलता है जाम-ए-नानक

यहाँ मिटे आ के तफ़रक़े सब रही न आलूदगी कोई भी
ये हर्फ़-ए-उल्फ़त, ये तौर-ए-इरफ़ाँ, ये अर्श-ए-इंसाँ, ये नाम-ए-नानक

In his writing, he comes across not just as a secularist, but also as a universalist bordering on atheism. Here he pays tribute to nanak for his universalism in celebration of his 500th birth anniversary. The beauty is that a hindu poet is writing an ode to the founder of sikhism in URDU.

na paak koi na koi naapaak koi ooNchaa na koi nichaa
guru ka ye mai-kada1 hai is jaa2 har ek ko miltaa hai jaam3-e nanak 1.tavern 2.place 3.cup (of wine of love)
There is no one who is pure or impure (untouchable), none of high of low status. This is the tavern of the guru, in this place everyone gets a drink of the wind of love from the cup of nanak.

yahaaN miTe aa ke tafraqe1 sab rahi na aaludgi2 koi bhi
ye harf-e-ulfat3, ye taur-e-irfaaN4, ye arsh-e-insaaN5, ye naam-e nanak 1.differences 2.contamination 3.word/message of love 4.ways of mystics/wisdom 5.sky/elevation of humanism
Here all differences are erased. There is no contamination/ambiguity. It is a message of love, the way of mystics (wisdom), the elevation of humanism. Such is the name of nanak.
