رہگزر پر ۔ فیض احمد فیض

 

وہ جس کی دید میں لاکھوں مسرّ تیں پنہاں

وہ حسن جس کی تمناّ  میں جنتیں پنہاں

ہزار فتنے تہ پائے ناز خاک نشیں

ہر اک نگاہ خمارِ شباب سے رنگیں

 

شباب جس کے تخیل پہ بجلیاں برسیں

وقار، جس کی رفاقت کو شوخیاں ترسیں

ادائے لغزشِ پا پر قیامتیں قرباں

بیاضِ رُخ پہ سحر کی صباحتیں قرباں

 

سیاہ زلفوں میں وارفتہ نکہتوں کا ہجوم

طویل راتوں کی خوابیدہ راحتوں کا ہجوم

وہ آ نکھ جس کے بنائو  پہ خالق اِترائے

زبانِ شعر کو تعریف کرتے شرم آئے

 

وہ ہونٹ فیض سے جن کے بہار لالہ فروش

بہشت و کوثر و تسنیم و سلسبیل بدوش

گداز جسم، قبا جس پہ سج کے ناز کرے

دراز قد جسے سروِ سہی نماز کرے

 

غرض وہ حسن جو محتاجِ وصف و نام نہیں

وہ حسن جس کا تصوّر بشر کا کام نہیں

کسی زمانے میں اِس رہگزر سے گذرا تھا

بصد غرور و تجمل، اِدھر سے گذرا تھا

 

اور اب یہ راہگزر  بھی ہے دِل فر یب و حسیں

ہے اِ س کی خاک میں کیفِ شراب و شعر مکیں

ہوا میں شوخیِ رفتار کی ادائیں ہیں

فضا میں نرمیِ گفتار کی صدائیں ہیں

 

غرض وہ حسن اب اِس رہ کا جزوِ منظر ہے

نیازِ عشق کو اک سجدہ گہ میسرّ ہے

रहगुज़र पर – फ़ैज़ अहमद फ़ैज़

 

वो जिस कि दीद में लाखों मसर्रतें पिन्हाँ

वो हुस्न जिस कि तमन्ना में जन्नतें पिन्हाँ

हज़ार फ़ितने तह ए पा ए नाज़ ख़ाक नशीं

हर एक निगाह ख़ुमार ए शबाब से रंगीं

 

शबाब जिस के तख़य्युल पे बिजलियाँ बरसें

विक़ार, जिस कि रिफ़ाक़त को शूख़ियां तरसें

अदा ए लग़ज़िश ए पा पर क़ियामतें क़ुर्बां

बयाज़ ए रुख़ पे सहर कि सबाहतें क़ुर्बां

 

सियाह ज़ुल्फ़ों में वारफ़ता निकहतों का हुजूम

तवील रातों कि ख़ाबीदा राहतों का हुजूम

वो आँख जिस के बनाऊ पे ख़ालिक़ इतराए

ज़बान ए शे’र को ता’रीफ़ करते शर्म आए

 

वो होंट फ़ैज़ से जिन के बहार लाला फ़रोश

बेहिश्त ओ कौसर ओ तस्नीम ओ सलसबील बा दोश

गदाज़ जिस्म, क़बा जिस पे सज के नाज़ करे

दराज़ क़द जिसे सर्व ए सही नमाज़ करे

 

ग़रज़ वो हुस्न जो मोहताज ए वस्फ़ ओ नाम नहीं

वो हुस्न जिस का तसव्वुर बशर का काम नहीं

किसी ज़माने में इस रहगुज़र से गुज़रा था

बसद ग़ुरूर ओ तजम्मुल, इधर से गुज़रा था

 

और अब ये राहगुज़र भी है दिलफ़रेब ओ हसीं

है इस कि ख़ाक में कैफ़ ए शराब ओ शे’र मकीं

हवा में शूख़ी ए रफ़्तार कि अदाएं हैं

फ़िज़ा में नरमी ए गुफ़्तार कि सदाएं हैं

 

ग़रज़ वो हुस्न अब इस रह का जुज़व ए मंज़र है

नियाज़ ए इश्क़ को एक सिजदा-गह मयस्सर है

Spring, carrying the beauty of heavenly brooks on its shoulders, can offer red tulips because of the benevolence of her lips. Her soft frame on which her robe sits with great pride. The tall and slender cypress pays homage to her stature. In Urdu poetry sarv=cypress is often used a metaphor for tall slender beauty.

Yes, the beauty that is disdainful of praise and renown, the beauty that is beyond the conception of man, passed through here some time ago; with much pride and elegance it passed.

And now this pathway too is beautiful and robs my heart. In its dust is mixed the pleasure of wine and verse. The breeze has a playful, mischievous style, soft sounds of gentle conversation all around.

Yes that beauty is a part of the scene of this sojourn (the poet’s life). Love now has a place to bow down and offer homage. faiz often uses the beloved as a metaphor for country. Having described the beauty of the beloved, he is sort of saying … there once was beauty in this country (rahguzar) and that beauty still lingers and offers a place where I can pay homage.
