पल दो पल मेरी हस्ती है, पल दो पल मेरी जवानी है

मुझ से पहले कितने शाएर आए और आ कर चले गए

कुच्छ आहें भर कर लौट गए, कुच्छ नग़मे गा कर चले गए

वो भी एक पल का क़िस्सा थे, मैं भी एक पल का क़िस्सा हूँ

कल तुम से जुदा हो जाऊँगा, गो आज तुम्हारा हिस्सा हूँ

पल दो पल में कुच्छ कह पाया, इतनी ही सा’दत काफ़ी है

पल दो पल तुम ने मुझ को सुना, इतनी ही इनायत काफ़ी है

कल और आएंगे नग़मौं की कलियाँ चुन-ने वाले

मुझ से बेहतर कहने वाले, तुम से बेहतर सुन-ने वाले

हर नस्ल एक फ़स्ल है धरती की आज उगती है कल कटती है

जीवन वो महँगी मुद्रा है जो क़तरा क़तरा बटती है

सागर से उभरी लहर हूँ मैं सागर में फिर खो जाऊँगा

मिट्टी की रूह का सपना हूँ मिट्टी में फिर सो जाऊँगा

कल कोई मुझ को याद करे क्यूँ कोई मुझ को याद करे

मसरूफ़ ज़माना मेरे लिए क्यूँ वक़्त अपना बरबाद करे

I am but a poet of transience, a fleeting moment. My story, my youth and vigour are but transitory. I am only passing through life, my relevance is temporary.

kuchh aaheN4 bhar kar lauT gaye, kuchh naGhme gaa kar chale gaye
