عشق کا راگ جو گانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں
کسی روٹھے کو منانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں

بات نفرت کی ہو کرنی تو زبانیں کتنی

کسی مرجھاتے ہوئے باغ میں غزلیں پڑھ کر
جب مجھے پھول کِھلانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں

اُس کی خوشبو سے چلا آئے گا کھنچ کر کوئی
جب اُسے پاس بلانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں

بے ادب بزم میں شائستہ بیانی کر کے
شمع تہذیب جلانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں

ایک خاموش سی محفل میں بھی لفظوں سے سحابؔ
جب مجھے آگ لگانا ہو، میں اُردو بولوں

किसी मुरझाते हुए बाग़ में ग़ज़लें पढ़ कर
जब मुझे फूल खिलाना हो, मैं उर्दू बोलूं

इस की ख़ुश्बू से चला आएगा खिंच कर कोई
जब उसे पास बुलाना हो, मैं उर्दू बोलूं

बे-अदब बज़्म में शा’एस्ता बयानी कर के
शम’अ-ए तहज़ीब जलाना हो, मैं उर्दू बोलूं

एक ख़ामोश सी महफ़िल में भी लफ़्ज़ों से सहाब
जब मुझे आग लगाना हो, मैं उर्दू बोलूं
