آوازۂ  جہاں  نہ  کہو  ۔  آنند  نرائن  مُلّا

صدائے  دل  ہی  کو  آوازۂ  جہاں  نہ  کہو

خود  اپنی  حدّ  نظر  ہی  کو  آسماں  نہ  کہو

ہر  ایک  ذرّے  کو  ہنستا  دیا  بنانا  ہے

فلک  کے  چاند  سِتاروں  کی  داستاں  نہ  کہو

۳

نہ  لاؤ  یا  تو  زباں  پر  حدیثِ  ناکامی

نہیں  تو  اپنی  تمنّا  کو  پھر  جواں  نہ  کہو

۴

یہ  اپنا  گھر  ہے  چلو  اِس  پہ  تصفیہ  کر  لیں

قفس  کہوں  نہ  اِسے  میں،  تم  آشیاں  نہ  کہو

۵

نہ  اِتّفاقِ  عمل  ہے  نہ  ایک  سمت  قدم

ابھی  تو  بھیڑ  ہے  یہ  اِس  کو  کارواں  نہ  کہو

خصومتوں  میں  خِرد  کی  جہاں  سُنے  نہ  سُنے

مرے  سرُودِ  محبّت  کو  رائگاں  نہ  کہو

۷

جہاں  ہر  ایک  کو  سجدے  کا  حق  نہیں  حاصل

اُسے  خدائے  محبّت  کا  آستاں  نہ  کہو

۸

اُجڑ  بھی  جائے  نشیمن  تو  پھر  نشیمن  ہے

قفس  میں  پھول  بھی  رکھ  دیں  تو  آشیاں  نہ  کہو

۹

زمانہ  مجھ  پہ  نہیں  تم  پہ  خندہ  زن  ہوگا

تم  آج  دوستو  مُلّا  کو  نکتہ  داں  نہ  کہو

आवाज़ा-ए जहाँ ना कहो – आनंद नरायन मुल्ला

सदा-ए दिल ही को आवाज़ा-ए जहाँ ना कहो

ख़ुद अपनी हद्द-ए नज़र ही को आस्माँ ना कहो

हर एक ज़र्रे को हँस्ता दिया बनाना है

फ़लक के चाँद सितारोँ की दास्ताँ ना कहो

ना लाओ या तो ज़बाँ पर हदीस-ए नाकामी

नहिँ तो अपनी तमन्ना को फिर जवाँ ना कहो

ये अपना घर है चलो इस पे तस्फ़िया कर लेँ

क़फ़स कहूँ ना इसे मैँ, तुम आशियाँ ना कहो

ना इत्तेफ़ाक़-ए अमल है ना एक सम्त क़दम

अभी तो भीड़ है ये, इस को कारवाँ ना कहो

ख़ुसूमतौँ में खिरद की जहाँ सुने ना सुने

मेरे सुरूद-ए मोहब्बत को रा’एगाँ ना कहो

जहाँ हर एक को सिज्दे का हक़ नहिँ हासिल

उसे ख़ुदा-ए मोहब्बत का आस्ताँ ना कहो

उजड़ भी जाए नशेमन तो फिर नशेमन है

क़फ़स में फूल भी रख देँ तो आशियाँ ना कहो

ज़माना मुझ पे नहिँ तुम पे ख़न्दा-ज़न होगा

तुम आज दोस्तो मुल्ला को नुक़ता-दाँ ना कहो

sadaa1-e dil hi ko aavaaza-e jahaaN na kaho
Khud apni hadd2-e nazar hi ko aasmaaN na kaho

Do not consider only the sound of your heart to be the voice of the world. Do not consider the conscience to be Truth. Do not take subjective opinion to be objective fact. Do not think that the sky is where the limit of your sight is. There is a lot more beyond, which you cannot see. This could have been addressed to religious extremists, inviting them not to claim monopoly over truth.

har ek zarre1 ko haNsta diya banaana hai
falak2 ke chaand sitaaroN ki dastaaN3 na kaho    
1.particle/grain of sand 2.skies/heavens 3.fables
We have to turn every grain of sand into a glowing lamp i.e. we have to improve things right here on earth. Don’t get tangled up in fables of heaven and stars (afterlife).

na laao ya to zabaaN par hadees1-e nakaami2
nahiN to apni tamanna3 ko phir javaaN na kaho    
1.tradition, history 2.failures 3.desires
Do not keep repeating the history of failures, or do not refresh your desires. If you have desires, then get beyond the thought failure and try to achieve it.

ye apna ghar hai chalo is pe tasfia1 kar leN
qafas2 kahuN na ise maiN, tum aashiyaaN3 na kaho    
1.decision, agreement 2.cage 3.nest
Let us agree that this is our home (hindu muslims in India). I will not consider it a cage/prison and you don’t consider it a nest (which will be struck by lightning). Let us both build/rebuild our home.

na ittefaaq1-e amal2 hai na ek samt3 qadam
abhi to bheeR hai ye, is ko kaarvaaN na kaho    
1.agreement 2.action 3.direction
Neither is there an agreed plan of action nor are we marching in the same direction. This is a (disorganized) crowd. Do not call it a caravan (destined towards a goal).

KhusoomatoN1 meN, Khirad2 ki jahaaN sune na sune
meray surood3-e mohabbat ko raa’egaaN4 na kaho 
1.hatred 2.wisdom 3.song 4.useless, ineffective
There is a lot of hatred and anger around and the world may not listen to the voice of wisdom/reason. Do not discard my song of love as ineffective.

usay Khuda-e mohabbat ka aastaaN4 na kaho 
1.bowing down in prayer 2.right 3.available 4.house
Where the right to pray is not open/available to everyone, do not call it the house of the god of love.

ujaR bhi jaaye nasheman1 to phir nasheman hai
qafas2 meN phool bhi rakh deN to aashiyaaN3 na kaho   
1.nest, homeland 2.cage 3.home
Probably a reflection of hindu-muslim discord and British machinations. Even if the homeland is in ruins, it is still home. Even if they place flowers in your cage, do not consider it home.

zamaana mujh pe nahiN tum pe Khanda-zan1 hoga
tum aaj dosto mulla ko nuqta-daaN2 na kaho  
1.make fun of, laugh at 2.one who understands fine points
This appears to be a statement of humility, breaking the pattern of the previous ash’aar. The world will laugh at you, not at me. Do not consider mulla (the name of the poet – but also a not so subtle hit at the muslim cleric) as one who undertands fine points.
