بے خبر ہوتے ہوتے ۔ پنڈت لبھورام جوشؔ ملسیانی

شبِ غم کی ہوگی سحر ہوتے ہوتے

نہ گھبرا ذرا اے مریضِ محبّت
اِفاقہ تو ہوگا، مگر ہوتے ہوتے

خدا جانے کس وہم سے رک گئے وہ
دعا رہ گئی کارگر ہوتے ہوتے

تلوّن مزاجی سے نبھنی ہے مشکل
مگر ہو رہے گی گزر ہوتے ہوتے

بہت ناز تھا اپنی آہوں پہ ہم کو
مگر یہ دن آئے اثر ہوتے ہوتے

محبّت کا انجام ہوتا ہے کیا کچھ

ابھی سے نہ آ جائے شامِ جدائی

He has written with great feeling about communal harmony and about the loss of his homeland – pakistan. His son, baalmukund arsh malsiani was also a well recognized poet. I have linked this Ghazal to the series ‘aahista aahista’ because the refrain ‘hote hote’ is used in the same spirit.

Prayers will be answered in time. The night of sorrow will end in a dawn of joy by and by.

Do not be worried O you, stricken with love. You will heal but only slowly.

Khuda jaane kis vahm1 se ruk gaye vo
dua rah gaii kaargar2 hote hote 1.doubt, suspicion, fear 2.effective
The poet/lover has been praying that the beloved come to him. It looked like she was coming and his prayers were answered. But suddenly, only god knows why, out of some unknown fear she stopped and his prayers remained unsanwered.

talavvun1 mizaaji2 se nibhni3 hai mushkil4
magar ho rahegi guzar5 hote hote 1.inconstancy, capricious, fickle 2.nature 3.accomplish, endure 4.difficult 5.pass
The beloved is fickle, both in her promises and in her favours. It is difficult to endure life with such a fickle nature. But life will pass anyway, over time.

bahut naaz that apni aahoN pe hum ko
magar ye din aaye asar hote hote 1.pride, confidence 2.sight 3.these (calamitous) days 4.effect
The poet/lover was confident that his sighs would have an effect and the beloved would finally agree to come to him. In that hope he has come to this condition, to these calamitous days, still waiting for his sighs to have an effect.

mohabbat ka anjaam1 hota hai kya kuchh
Khabar2 hum ne dii, be-Khabar3 hote hote 1.end, result 2.news, knowledge 3.losing senses, getting drunk, fainting
The poet/lover has suffered and is passing out – either due to excessive drinking, due to madness or is weakness near death. Even as he is fainting/passing out he is warning others (either rivals or the coming crop of lovers) what the result of love is.

gilaa1 koii lab2 par na laana that hum ko
sitam3 bhi agar jaan par hote hote 1.compaint 2.lips 3.torture
‘jaan pe aana’ is an expression meaning – becoming unbearable, life-threatening. He complained to the beloved and she threw him out. He regrets. I should not have let any complaint escape my lips even if the torture had become unbearable.

abhi se na aa jaaye shaam1-e judaaii2
Thahr jaaiyega sahar3 hote hote 1.night 2.separation 3.dawn
It is early evening and the beloved is getting ready to leave. The poet/lover pleads – let not the night separation begin already. Wait until after dawn.

ye maana1 ke ab paauN uThte nahiN haiN
magar2 Khatm3 hoga safar4 hote hote 1.agree, concede 2.but 3.finish 4.journey
The poet/lover has been on a long journey of love. He is tired and concedes that he is no longer able to take any more steps. But he consoles himself – this journey will be completed gradually, by and by.
