ہم نے دیکھے بہت نشیب و فراز

عشق کی آنچ اس میں پاتا ہوں
دل ذرا دیکھتا ہوں جس کا گداز

کس توجہ سے پڑھ رہا ہے نماز

اک پتے کی جو ہم نے کہہ دی آج
رنگ واعظ کا کر گیا پرواز

غیب سے آرہی ہے کچھ آواز

چارہ یاں کیا ہے غیرِ عجز و نیاز

है वो मालिक डुबोए ख़्वाह तैराए
चारा यां क्या है ग़ैर इज्ज़ ओ नियाज़

ranjish1 o iltefaat2 o naaz3 o niyaaz4
ham ne dekhe bahut nasheb5 of faraaz6 1.anger, annoyance 2.kindness, favours 3.coquetry, teasing 4.offering, devotion 5.lows 6.highs
We have seen the anger and favours shown by the beloved. We have see her withdrawal and teasing and offered loving devotion to her. We have seen it all – all the highs and lows (either those caused by the beloved or the world in general).

ishq ki aaNch us meN paata huN
dil zara dekhta huN jis ka gudaaz1 1.soft, kind
I find the fire of love in the heart that I see as soft/kind (pained at the suffering of others).

shaiKh, allah re teri ayyaari1
kis tavajjoh2 se paRh raha hai namaaz 1.craftiness 2.attention
The shaiKh apparently is putting up a show sincerity in offering his prayers but the poet can see through it. By go, your craftiness, O shaiKh. Just look at the (feigned) attention/care with which you offer prayers.

ek pate1 ki jo hum ne kah dii aaj
raNg vaa’ez2 ka kar gaya parvaaz3 1.pate ki baat kahna is saying something that hits the mark 2.preacher 3.flight
As soon as I said something that hit the mark i.e., exposed the hypocrisy of the preacher, the colour of his face took flight i.e., he went pale with fear.

lai1 abhi tak khuli2 nahiN laikin
Ghaib3 se aa rahi hai kuchh aavaaz 1.melody 2.unfold 3.unknown, mysterious
The melody is not yet fully unfolded – we do not yet fully understand god and creation. But still we hear a voice from the unknown.

hai vo maalik, Duboye Khwaah1 tairaaye
chaara2 yaaN kya hai Ghair3 ijz4 o niyaaz5 1.whatever the wish/will 2.healing, cure 3.other than 4.humility 5.offering, devotion
He is lord. He can either help us swim or drown. It is all his wish/will. What else can we do other than humbly accept and offer devotion/acceptance.
