ہر ایک امید کا میری تمہیں ہو گہوارہ

تمہیں ہو جیسے ہر اک درد کا مرے چارہ

تمہیں پہ آ کے ٹھہرتی ہے چشمِ آوارہ

ہر اِبتدائے محبّت کا اِختتام ہو تم

میں کون؟ اک گُلِ افسردہ و دلِ ناشاد

تم ایک بزم کی زینت تم اک چمن کی مراد

کہاں تم اور کہاں مجھ سا زندگی برباد

مرے نصیب کی جس میں نہیں وہ جام ہو تم

سحر کی یاد ہو تم اور خیالِ شام ہو تم

اُفق حیات کا پھر بھی تمہیں سے ہے زرّیں

ہر ایک بزمِ تصوّر تمہیں سے ہے رنگیں

تمہاری سمت ہے دل کی نگاہِ باز پسیں

اندھیری زیست کی اک زرنگار شام ہو تم

سحر کی یاد ہو تم اور خیالِ شام ہو تم

کروں میں عرضِ تمنّا مری مجال نہیں

سوال دل میں ہے اور جراؑتِ سوال نہیں

تمہاری یاد سے غافل مرا خیال نہیں

میں کچھ کہوں نہ کہوں حاصلِ کلام ہو تم

خموشیوں میں ہے دمساز کون؟ تم جو نہیں

نظر نظر کا مری راز کون؟ تم جو نہیں

نفس نفس کی ہے آواز کون؟ تم جو نہیں

پیام بر ہوں اگر میں مرا پیام ہو تم

کسی نگاہ کا جو دل غلام ہو نہ سکا

جو سر کبھی کسی چوکھٹ پہ آج تک نہ جھکا

تمہارے در پہ وہی آج ہے جبیں فرسا

تو کیا جہان کا مُلّا سے انتقام ہو تم

जो बन गया है मेरा ज़ुज़्व-ए लब वो नाम हो तुम

तुम्हेँ ख़याल की रानायौँ में देखा है

तुम्हेँ उमीद की तन्हाइयौँ में देखा है

तुम्हीँ को रूह की गहराइयौँ में देखा है

जिधर भी आँख उठि है फ़रोग़-ए बाम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

हर एक उमीद का मेरी तुम्हीँ हो गहवारा

तुम्हीँ हो जैसे हर एक दर्द का मेरे चारा

तुम्हीँ पे आ के ठहरती है चश्म-ए आवारा

हर इब्तेदा-ए मोहब्बत का एख़्तेताम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

मैँ कोन? एक गुल-ए अफ़्सुर्दा ओ दिल-ए नाशाद

तुम एक बज़्म की ज़ीनत तुम एक चमन कि मुराद

कहाँ तुम और कहाँ मुझ सा ज़िंदगी बर्बाद

मेरे नसीब की जिस में नहिँ वो जाम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

उफ़क़ हयात का फिर भी तुम्हिँ से है ज़र्रीँ

हर एक बज़्म-ए तसव्वुर तुम्हीँ से है रँगीँ

तुम्हारी सम्त है दिल की निगाह-ए बाज़-पसीँ

अंधेरी ज़ीस्त की एक ज़रनिगार शाम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

करूँ मैँ अर्ज़-ए तमन्ना मेरी मजाल नहीँ

सवाल दिल में है और जुर’अत-ए सवाल नहीँ

तुम्हारी याद से ग़ाफ़िल मेरा ख़याल नहीँ

मैँ कुछ कहुँ ना कहुँ हासिल-ए कलाम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

ख़मोशियौँ में है दमसाज़ कौन? तुम जो नहीँ

नज़र नज़र का मेरी राज़ कौन? तुम जो नहीँ

नफ़स नफ़स कि है आवाज़ कौन? तुम जो नहीँ

पयाम-बर हूँ अगर मैँ मेरा पयाम हो तुम

सहर की याद हो तुम और ख़याल-ए शाम हो तुम

किसी निगाह का जो दिल ग़ुलाम हो ना सका

जो सिर कभी किसी चौखट पे आज तक ना झुका

तुम्हारे दर पे वही आज है जबीँ फ़रसा

तो क्या जहान का मुल्ला से इंतेक़ाम हो तुम

tumhaare dar3 pe vahi aaj hai jabiN-farsa4
to kya jahaan ka mulla5 se inteqaam6 ho tum
sahar ki yaad ho tum aur Khayaal-e shaam ho tum

The heart that never became slave to any amorous glance. The head that never bowed at any threshold. He now rubs his forehead at your door.
