रुख़ से ज़ुल्फ़ौं को हटा दे कभी बिखरा दे कभी

तू भी एक सिलसिला-ए शाम ओ सहर पैदा कर

हुस्न ओ नज़्ज़ारा बहम हों के है दस्तूर यही

जल्वा दिखलाना है तो जल्वा-निगर पैदा कर

उठ और एक जज़्ब-ए जुनूं अक़्ल पे तारी कर ले

इश्क़ का रंग ब-उन्वान-ए दिगर पैदा कर

चश्म-ए मुश्ताक़ मेरी देख न ले जब हि सही

कोई जल्वा तो पस-ए परदा-ए दर पैदा कर

तुझ को अपने यद-ए क़ुदरत की क़सम अए क़ुदरत

मुझ सा फिर दाग़ ब दिल ख़ाक ब सर पैदा कर

दे ग़म-ए हिज्र के बरदाश्त की ताक़त यारब

Early education in arabi and faarsi as well as urdu, was traditional and at home. Orphaned early, he was brought up by an uncle who also passed away. He trained in accountancy and moved to hyderabad with the encouragement of his brother; progressed steadily to become Assistant Financial Secretary. With the early passing of his wife, he devoted himself to his children and their education and expressed his creative talent in writing urdu poetry. His Ghazal have layers of mystic/sufi thought intertwined with romantic and religious themes. After his passing in 1956 but his diivaan remained in the family for a long time, only as a collection organized by radeef. in his own handwriting. The poet/lover experiences the ecstacy of love and prays that his love have an effect on the beloved so that she feels the same ecstacy that he does.

There is an interesting word play in this she’r. ‘husn’ means beauty but it also means ‘refined taste’. Thus, develop in the (discerning) eye of love, the taste/desire of looking at beauty with a refined sight.

tu bhi ek silsila6-e shaam7 o sahar8 paidaa kar

The beloved has long dark hair which is symbolic of the darkness of the night. Her face is bright which is symbolic of the brightness of the day. Thus, if she moves the hair away from the face it is like day and she spreads it over her face, it is like night. This way she can create a succession of her own day and night.

It is a custom that beauty and the witnessing/seeing/sighting of the spectacle of beauty mutually co-exist. There cannot be one without the other. Thus, if you want to display your glory, then create one who can bear to see your glory. This might well have been addressed to god. Humans do not have the capacity to witness divine glory (per the story of moosa who went on mount tuur asking to see god). The poet wants god to give him this capacity.

This is a classical debate about knowledge of the material world vs experiencing the divine, spiritual or universal love. Knowledge can take you only so far. Beyond that you have to rely on passion/love. Thus, arise and spread over the mind, a feeling of passion. In this way, create a style of love by a different name/theme. Here, ‘spreading over’ implies making it more powerful and a different theme implies making it more respectable.

The beloved does not want to display her glory/beauty before the poet/lover. He is resigned to that. Thus, if the only condition that is acceptable to you that my eager eye not be able to see your glory, then at least, display that glory behind the veil/curtain of the door. The implication is that some of it will filter through and he will be able to imagine the rest.

mujh sa phir daaGh5 ba-dil Khaak ba-sar paidaa kar

The poet considers himself to be the epitome of the ideal lover with dust on his head and wounds on his heart. I swear by the miraculous ability of your hand, O god, create another lover like me. The implication is that this is a challenge and there cannot be another lover like the poet.
